Oldham Athletic secured a vital 2-1 home victory over Accrington Stanley in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday. The win at Boundary Park provides a much-needed boost for a side that had lost four of its last five matches.
Oldham entered the fixture 21st in the table with just seven points from eight games. Their recent form of four defeats and one win in their last five had left them looking over their shoulder at the relegation places. A heavy 4-1 home loss to league leaders Salford City just two weeks earlier had underlined their struggles.
The three points lift Oldham away from immediate danger and provide a platform to build on. Accrington Stanley, who sat 16th before the match, were unable to add to their points tally.
The immediate focus returns to Boundary Park, where the next fixture is also a home game. The victory ends a difficult run and offers hope of a more positive period ahead for the Latics.
