Nicky Adams has returned to Oldham Athletic to accept a coaching position in its youth system. He will focus on the Under-16s and assist with broader development, bringing his knowledge back as the senior side occupies a low position in the league standings.
Adams will partner with Irfan Kawri, who leads coach development for the Academy, resuming a coaching path that started at the club previously. He first managed a youth squad before spending time elsewhere.
A familiar face with deep ties
The former professional, who is from Bolton, finished his playing days at Oldham. He also played for several other clubs during his career. After his time with Oldham concluded, he became a coach at Wigan Athletic. Later, after a change in management there, he joined Radcliffe, where he briefly served as interim manager before leaving recently.
Irfan Kawri expressed pleasure at the comeback, saying on the club's site, "We’re delighted to have Nicky back at the club and working with the Academy." He continued, "He brings a lot of positive energy around the players, around the coaches and around the building, and that’s exactly what we’re looking for."
The move is intended to strengthen the youth setup while the first team tries to better its form. Adams will also do some work with the senior squad, creating a connection between the Academy and the main team. Supporters can follow emerging players via the official squad page, and the first team's next match is at home against Accrington Stanley. The complete fixture list is on the club's website.
