Oldham Athletic have completed the signing of striker Calum Kavanagh from Bradford City on a two-and-a-half-year deal. The 22-year-old forward joins Micky Mellon’s side ahead of transfer deadline day, ending his two-year spell at Valley Parade where he scored 19 goals in 70 appearances.
Who is Calum Kavanagh?
Kavanagh, the son of former Carlisle United manager Graham Kavanagh, began his career at Middlesbrough before moving to Bradford City in 2024. He scored 13 goals last season, including the winner in a 1-0 League Two victory over Carlisle at Brunton Park, with his father watching from the stands. This season, he has made nine appearances, scoring once in the EFL Trophy.
Why did Oldham sign him?
Manager Micky Mellon praised Kavanagh’s experience and goal-scoring ability, stating, “Calum is a player we’ve admired for some time. He’s a young striker with good experience already behind him, knows this level well and has shown he can score and create goals.” Kavanagh himself expressed his delight at joining Oldham, calling it a “massive club with real ambition.”

Kavanagh will now link up with his new teammates, including veteran striker Joe Garner, as Oldham prepare for their next fixture against Chesterfield away on February 20, 2027.
