Loan Move
Colchester United have secured the services of 19‑year‑old forward Moses Sesay on a season‑long loan from Championship side Southampton. The move comes after the 19‑year‑old completed his first loan switch away from St Mary’s and will be available for Colchester’s home fixture against Oldham Athletic.
Player Profile
Sesay signed his first professional contract at Southampton in January 2025, keeping him at the club until 2028. He joined the Saints’ academy on a scholarship deal in 2023 after spending time at Chelsea. The young forward has already made a senior appearance for the Saints, coming on as a cameo in their 3‑0 Carabao Cup win over Norwich City. He has also featured regularly for Southampton’s under‑21 side alongside former Colchester loanee Romeo Akachukwu, though he was not involved in the club’s recent Carabao Cup match.
Sesay is described as a versatile attacker who can play anywhere along the front line. Colchester boss Danny Cowley said: “He can play seven, eight, ten, eleven. He’s a very gifted player with the ball and can really speed up the game. He’s got good goal creation and can score goals, too.”
Colchester’s Plans
Cowley added that the loan signing will help the club add depth to its attacking options. “It’s his first loan – he’s had senior involvement at Southampton but he’s really living senior football for the first time,” he said. “We’ll work really hard with him in the areas that we feel he’s got to add to his game – the stuff against the ball, the pressing, the duels, the counter‑pressing, the reactivity which I think is all in his gifts to do.”
The manager praised Sesay’s potential and expressed confidence that he would contribute to the squad. “We’re pleased to have him with us and pleased to add another number to our group,” Cowley said.
Future Outlook
Sesay’s loan will provide him with regular first‑team football and an opportunity to develop his game at a competitive level. He will be available for Colchester’s home match against Oldham Athletic.
