Oldham Athletic have agreed to sign striker Elliott Nevitt from Gillingham when his contract ends on 1 July. The 29-year-old will join on a two-year deal having spent the latter half of the past season on loan at Cambridge United, where he won promotion from League Two.

What happened?

Nevitt previously played for Oldham boss Micky Mellon when the pair were at Tranmere Rovers.

"I'm really happy, when I spoke to Micky earlier on, he told me how much he wanted me and that meant a lot. I loved working with him and I wanted to work with him again," he said.

Why it matters for Oldham

The signing of Nevitt is a significant boost for Oldham Athletic, who are currently 10th in League Two with 68 points from 46 games, and 19 points behind leaders Bromley.
