Oldham Athletic manager Micky Mellon is confident in the team's current roster after completing their summer recruitment. The 12 new additions, made before the season began, include four goalkeepers, four defenders, five midfielders, and two forwards. Four of these newcomers debuted in a 2-0 loss to Stoke City on Saturday, while others came off the bench or were substitutes.
Mellon told The Oldham Times that there won't be any more signings this transfer window, even if players leave the club. 'We're done. The budget's done,' he stated. 'We're happy, we don't need to do anything.'
The manager emphasized his satisfaction with the new additions, describing them as talented and fresh faces that bring a needed change to the squad. He added, 'I think I had talented players but we wanted a bit of freshness and some new faces. Sometimes in football you need to do that to try to move things forward.'
Mellon is optimistic about the upcoming League Two season, stating they have a good week ahead to fine-tune their preparations for the first match against Port Vale on Saturday at 12:30pm.
'We wanted to be able make change in the summer. We just felt it was time to make some change so I'm pleased that we were able to do that,' Mellon concluded, expressing his contentment with the new squad and the talent available.
